Could have gone either way. Chris Pollard also did very well in taking John to 4 sets. Malcolm Cole, Leigh B 25/09/14 - Weald vs Otford A No report submitted 26/09/14 - Barming DV vs Leigh A
No report submitted 15/09/14 - Byng Hall A vs Barming DV No report submitted 16/09/14 - Otford B vs Otford A Great match between Otford A and Otford B... 7-2 to the A but were lucky to get 4/4 of the 5 enders and all 5th legs were desperately close! Tyron Stalberg, Otford A 16/09/14 - Otford D vs Otford C No report submitted 19/09/14 - Byng Hall B vs Teen & Twenty B Teen and Twenty B took all the points available on the night after a disappointing evening for Byng B who took 4 matches to the 5th but could not secure any of them. Otford E were victorious on a night that could so easily have been different! There were lots of close matches and fight backs. Tony York was facing defeat against Martin Dunville at two sets down and 10-8 down in the third but came back to win the match. Then, to top it all, Mike Palmer did the same to Martin. Great fun! Martin Dunville, Teen & Twenty C Well done to Otford E 6-3 winners, but it could have been oh so different with lots of really close calls... Where did Tony York and Mike Palmer find the muster to battle back from the brink of defeat against Martin Dunville?! I'm sure he won't let them off the hook next time. It was a most enjoyable night. Martin Dunville, Teen & Twenty C Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 27th June 2014 are now available. Minutes of all General Committee Meetings will also be published, upon ratification. 09/09/14 - Otford A vs Teen & Twenty A A good first match of the season played in great spirit. Nick Smith stuffed Otford A captain Ty Stalberg to avoid the white wash! Tyron Stalberg, Otford A 09/09/14 - Otford C vs Teen & Twenty C No report submitted. 11/09/14 - Weald vs Leigh A A LEAGUE DEBUT FOR THE WEALD Whilst Mark Romano was unruffled in taking his three, Petar did well to take a well earned leg from him with some good aggressive play. Dave Cowlen found his luck ran out, losing twice in five and then went down in four to Miro in a good counter hitting game, after to quote "and I was really trying this time". Dan Powley had a consistent game with Petar, the first four legs shared at -9 in each before slipping away in the fifth, leaving the newcomers with a 6-3 victory. The match was played on two tables, which gave a finish of just after 9.45pm. Roger Harris, Weald 11/09/14 - Leigh B vs Byng Hall B We would have won with three players! John Neal, Leigh B 12/09/14 - Barming DV vs Otford B A good match at our new venue. The best team won but Dean was particularly unlucky. Look at the scores! John Davison, Barming DV 12/09/14 - Teen & Twenty B vs Otford D

After a fair amount of discussion at the recent WKTTA General Committee meeting it has been decided that for the forthcoming season celluloid balls will be used. This decision was made to ensure continuity of playing conditions throughout the season. Although all clubs have been able to obtain supplies of the new plastic ball prior to the start of the season, questions remain about their durability and their further availability as the season progresses. Major brands, such as Butterfly, Nittaku and Stiga have yet to produce the new balls in large quantities for sale on the mass market. Table Tennis England have stipulated that the new ball must be used from 1st July, 2015. The fixtures for the forthcoming have now been released. These can be downloaded here.
Following BBC's coverage of the Commonwealth Games Table Tennis competition in Glasgow, the local radio station in Kent decided to have its own 'Common Wells" Games in Tunbridge Wells today. Table tennis was just one of the sports being covered during the day.
Dave McAulay, from the Medway League and Steve Day from WKTTA were briefly interviewed live on radio this morning and then gave a further interview to reporter Alex Bish which will feature at the weekend. Although the broadcast was largely for fun, it did give us a small chance to grab the limelight for our sport. http://www.tabletennisengland.co.uk/news/donic-legends-tour-heads-to-london-with-waldner-and-persson Despite some early morning concerns about the weather, Saturday's Rusthall Fete was bathed in sunshine from start to finish with temperatures in the mid to high 20's. Attendance was high as was interest in the table tennis being played on Rusthall's shiny new outdoor table.
WKTTA players, Dave Cowlen, Steve Day and Mark Romano provided the entertainment whilst also encouraging visitors to "give it a try". Many did, and quite a few, were also interested to hear about our Sunday Morning Sessions in Tonbridge. We are hopeful that we may have found a least a couple of players for the future. Fun, though, was the name of the game and despite butterflies occasionally causing an hindrance to Dave, to say nothing of the wind, everybody enjoyed themselves. It is with some sadness that we heard today that one of our Vice Presidents, Harry Hart, recently passed away. Although Harry stopped a while ago, he was a keen table tennis player and supporter of the league. In his latter years, bowls became his main sport.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
Local league players from the Byng Hall club, Owe Karlsson, Jurate Brazaityte, Jas Ould and Tom Windram all played in the prestigious Heritage Oil Open which was held over 3 days at the K2 Sports Centre in Crawley on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4th, 5th and 6th July. Kent was well represented with top youngsters Danny Lawrence, Lewis Gray, Daniella Gray and Luke Savill also playing. Chris Bartram defied the years by qualifying for the knock out stages of the main event as well as the Vets Competition.
Dave Cowlen and Steve Day were up with the lark, and down at T & 20 Club to set up the hall for the inaugural WKTTA Sunday Table Tennis Sessions. Given it was the end of school half term, a big turn out was not expected, but those who did come were fully committed. Plenty of advice was on hand for the newcomers as well as the chance to take part in both multi-ball and robot training exercises. The sessions will continue every Sunday throughout the Summer. The annual junior competition this year included a number of juniors invited from Darenth Table Tennis Club. Thirteen youngsters spent Sunday morning playing some great table tennis with Hamza Ansari from Darenth beating Chris Everett from Leigh in the final. The morning was finished with a fun session of ‘round the table’, the traditional closing activity for Leigh’s Sunday morning sessions. Leigh juniors practice every Sunday morning at Leigh village hall, between 10 and 1pm from September through to April. Contact Leigh's Junior Development Officer, Steve McCarthy for more information.
