Match Reports - Week 9

28/11/2014

25/11/14 - Otford A vs Otford B
A MUCH CLOSER MATCH THAN THE SCORE SUGGESTS!
Tyron Stalberg, Otford A
Great Match, great banter!
Tyron Stalberg, Otford A
25/11/14 - Otford C vs Otford D
A great local derby between Otford C and D. The 9-0 result for the home team flattered them as there were several close matches. Heidi Smith in particular, playing her first game for the D team, came very close in all three of her matches. Probably a bit rusty after her lay off. So the Otford C bandwagon rolls on. Can anyone stop them? Surprisingly good refreshments in the form of cheese straws made by the delicate hands of Mr Homewood!
Peter Coles, Otford C

27/11/14 - Weald vs Teen & Twenty A
The two teams comprised the same players who contested their first match. This time the Weald turned the previous 5-4 loss into a 5-4 win. The match went to the wire. Having taken a two nil lead through Petar and Miro, excellent allround defender Graham Barnes pulled it back before Miro took it to 3-1. Then Roger and Petar failed to dent neither Nick or Graham to see the score come back to 3-3. Nick overcame Petar to put Tand20 ahead for the first time. Roger outdid Ming leaving the match finely balanced at 4-4. Graham took a 2-0 lead versus Miro. Miro took the next. Then the next to take it a fifth and deciding leg. After taking a commanding lead Miro was pegged back by Graham before the game closed 9 to Miro to take a really excellent game of looping, counter blocking versus retrieving and spin variation. Trouble is having problem entering result onto web site at present. Ps think they have Graham's rating wrong, it should be c2400.
Roger Harris, Weald

28/11/14 - Teen & Twenty B vs Byng Hall B
What a great evening of table tennis. Nip and tuck all the way to the end, where in match nine, Peter Duke managed to get the better of Filippo Rotundo over four sets. All the matches were played in good spirit and endeavour but most of all, in a very sporting manner. The quality of some of the rallies was superb. Well done in particular to Filippo for out thinking me with his tactics for a well deserved win in four and to Adrian Knight for his win in five over Simon Wetton. Adrian Sainsbury picked up two good wins and then just lost out to yours truly over five terrific sets.
Steve Day, Teen & Twenty B

Match Reports - Week 8

17/11/14 - Leigh A vs Weald
Leigh A's first win of the season! A good evening of table tennis played in a good spirit throughout. Mick set Leigh off to an excellent start by turning a 2 game deficit against Miro around 6-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7.

18/11/14 - Otford B vs Barming DV
Barming DV with only 2 players (Brian Lees and Dean Chipperfield) earned a good 3 points against a very good Otford B side. Brian beating Doug Bloom and Dean beating Matt Emery and Doug. Dean taking Martin Tate the distance before bowing out 11-5 in the 5th! Overall some very good table tennis with great long rallies.
Dean Chipperfield, Barming DV
18/11/14 - Otford D vs Teen & Twenty B
The Otford D team of Sarah Maris, Jon Corser and Peter Clarke put up formidable resistance despite losing 9-0 to a T & 20 B side comprising, Steve Day, Geoff Curtis and Andy Larner. A great evening of table tennis which included Peter's tasty treats of homemade rock cakes and shortbread. Brilliant!!
Steve Day, Teen & Twenty B
21/11/14 - Teen & Twenty C vs Otford C
T&T put up a strong fight but were found wanting on the night... David Jeal was doing well until he caught his finger on the table and cut it open. After spraying blood all over the table and his opponent he had to stop play and seek some first aid treatment. This unfortunately hampered David's challenge.
Martin Dunville, Teen & Twenty C

Doubles Competition 2014/15 - Evening Two

Tweenies-101 take top spot as winning streak continues
Tweenies-101 confirmed their position as one of the favourites to take the title after another night of wins. Having won their first three matches on the first evening, they were well in the mix heading in to the second evening of the competition. They won all four of the matches this week too and now lead last year's winners Kapow by two points.

After a steady start to the competition last time out, The Mariners won all three matches this week to move up to third, three points behind second placed Kapow.

Barmy Army made their debut having been unable to field a side for the first evening of play and had mixed results, winning two (including a 3-2 victory over Kapow from 2-0 down) and losing two.

There was also some drama off the table this week. Scheduled on first, PINGIT were to have a player need to be late. Some frantic work at the control desk to rearrange the fixtures ensued to ensure a timely start. There was still time for another twist towards the end of the night when, just before the final round of matches, it transpired that the PINGIT team had departed and had to forfeit their last match! The moral of the story? Make sure you know and double check your team's fixtures!

The next meeting will take place on Friday 5th December 2014 at Teen and Twenty Club, Tonbridge.
