Match Reports - Week 6

24/10/2014

21/10/14 - Otford A vs Byng Hall A
Otford A outclassed on the night by Byng Hall A.
Tyron Stalberg, Otford A
21/10/14 - Otford C vs Byng Hall B
Otford C continued their 100% start to the season with a 6-3 victory but the evening belonged to Byng's Adrian Sainsbury, who was playing his first match for the B team. Doubling up for the A Team, also playing at Otford on the same evening, seemed to inspire Adrian and he got better as the night went on, taking all 3 points. Refreshment report - the "retro" Fig Biscuits were not a popular experiment and have been consigned to the dustbin of history.
Peter Coles, Otford C
21/10/14 - Otford E vs Teen & Twenty B
No report submitted
23/10/14 - Leigh B vs Otford D
Excellent match. Well done Sarah. Only 2 matches going in 3 sets.
Malcolm Cole, Leigh B
23/10/14 - Weald vs Barming DV
The match was even stephens all the way through, going to the last game and fourth leg when Mark Heaton saw his side home versus Miro Danadzhiev. The combination of spin, anti returns and forehand hitting saw him take the victory.
Diccon Gray made his debut in WK after recovery from a broken elbow, repaired with the help of a metal plate. His excellent touch and pace saw him notch up three wins. Against Brian Lees there was some tremendous hitting and counter hitting rallies from both sides of the table.
Having gotten into winning positions Petar Tancevski saw Brian Lees recover from 2-0 down. then only to suffer the same fate versus Mark Heaton.
Dean looked sharp in winning his two games but was taken aback versus Diccon in three fairly comfortable legs.
The six deuce games were shared but Barming DV just settled the match result in their favour by playing out the better in all three of the five leggers. A learning curve for the less experienced Petar and Miro.
Roger Harris, Weald
24/10/14 - Teen & Twenty A vs Leigh A
Teen & Twenty A just edged it on the night, with lots of close sets.
Dan Powley, Leigh A

Stuffed by Otford B tonight. Might need the white flag for their A side!
Dan Powley, Leigh A

Excellent match. 14 legs either 11-9 or more. Could have gone either way but Ian and Bob played very well to secure the points.

Otford C Triumph!

18/10/2014

Otford C confirmed their position as Division 2 title favourites with an emphatic 7-2 win over second placed T & 20 B. With a squad of Peter Coles, Peter Holt, Paul Homewood, Laurence Muscat and Mark Bilham being recently augmented by the signing of Heidi Smith, they look invincible. T & 20 fought all the way to the end but could only record two wins.

Although the standard of the table tennis on the night was high it was surpassed by quality the homemade chocolate brownies supplied by T & 20 captain Steve Day's wife, Carol. Better than anything you can buy!

West Kent Table Tennis Association Development League

11/10/2014

On Saturday 11th October 2014, the first WKTTA Development League meeting was announced for Wednesday 5th November 2014.

It is a two person team competition for non league players aimed at helping players to understand what it is like to play in a competitive (but friendly) environment. Some lower ranked league players (under 1300) may participate, particularly where they are not playing regular league table tennis or finding it hard to win in the league structure.

We are initially looking for 6 x two person teams with matches starting at 19.30 and finishing around 21.00. After this, players will be able to play challenge singles if participants want to stay beyond 21.00 until 22.00. This will be a first come, first served event until we reach the 6 teams needed.

Tables, balls, nets and other equipment will be provided by Otford Table Tennis Club. Players will need to bring their own bats although the club has some bats if they are needed. Parking is available at Otford Memorial Hall.

More information is available in the invitation below. Enquiries and entries should be sent to [email protected].

Doubles Competition 2014/15 - Evening One

Champions Kapow top despite opening day loss
The inaugural doubles competition winners, Kapow, began their title defence on Friday, finishing the evening at the top of the table despite a narrow 3-2 defeat to Tweenies-101. Their conquerors only lie two points behind, however, with a game in hand. As separate entities last season, Team 101 and The Tweenies came second and third behind Kapow.

The Sweaty Trotters take up the same position, joint second with Tweenies-101, after winning their first three matches in the competition.

Unfortunately, one of the pre-season favourites, Barmy Army, had to withdraw from the first evening of play. With such fierce competition at the top of the table, they may struggle to recover.

Evening Two of the doubles competition with be Friday 7th November 2014 at Teen and Twenty Club, Tonbridge.

Well done Joe Luck. An impressive first ever league match.
Tony York, Otford E
02/10/14 - Weald vs Otford B
The Weald encountered Otford B, having played their A team in the previous week, both matches concluded in 2-7 wins for the lads from Otford. In both matches Miro and Roger won a singles apiece. Matt Emery graced both matches and was prevented from going home with a 100% haul when Roger overturned a loss in fifth to deuce v Otford A to take the game 3-1 v Otford B. Martin Tate got in the zone and thought we still played to 21, only on wiping his specs did he see he had just broken a golden rule having taken a leg to love. He did though escape the building without injury. Nick Larmer suffered at the hands of a half a dozen nets in just one leg but the pace of the game v Roger again saw him came out on top. Whereas v Miro Nick lost out in three tight legs. John Burleton, a coach at The Weald took his three games for Otford A. The trick of plying him with chocolate biscuits did not work, but a whole packet John, how could you? In a first for Roger v Otford A who beat Tyron in the fifth.
So the Weald have now played four matches without their strongest player Diccon Gray, who has been recovering from a broken elbow have a break before returning in three weeks to league matches v Darenth Valley and Byng Hall.
Roger Harris, Weald
03/10/14 - Teen & Twenty A vs Barming DV
Good game between Teen n 20 A and Barming DV, Barming winning 5-4 . Lord Mark Frederick Peter Heaton secured the win beating Ming Majoe 3-1. Nick Smith in good form winning all 3 including a close 5th leg win over Dean Chipperfield. Brian Lees chipped in with a win over Stephen Day.
Dean Chipperfield, Barming DV
