This season's AGM takes place on Friday 26th June 2015 in the small Leigh Hall, next to the main hall, at 8pm. The agenda can be found below, with the proposed changes to the league structure to follow.
Last Sunday saw fourteen players registered in West Kent participate in the county’s Annual Closed Championships, which were held at the Y Sports Centre in Maidstone.
Although Bromley’s effervescent, Chris Bartram, claimed most titles, our players succeeded in winning five of their own. They were: Jas Ould – Ladies Singles, Ladies Under 21’s Singles and Ladies Doubles Roger Pingram – Veterans Over 60’s Mark Romano – Men’s Doubles Heidi Smith – Ladies Doubles In addition to this, Heidi was runner up in the Mixed Doubles with our very own, John Burleton, and the Ladies Singles Plate. John, who was playing his first County Championships for a long while, was also runner up in the Men’s Veterans Singles. Sue Sullivan also chipped in with a runner up medal in the Ladies Doubles. Not far behind Jas Ould’s fine performance was Roger Pingram, who, during the day, had big wins against Simon Dilkes (Bromley), Simon Forrest (Medway) and Richard Beckham (Medway). Petar Tancevski from Weald TTC also got in on the giant killing scene with an impressive win over Bromey star Joe Kennedy. To say it was a long would be an understatement but all in all I’m sure our players now think it was well worth the effort. Well done to those that won medals and also to those that made sure West Kent was well represented. 13/04/15 - Byng Hall A vs Weald No report submitted 13/04/15 - Leigh A vs Otford A No report submitted 14/04/15 - Otford B vs Teen & Twenty A No report submitted 14/04/15 - Otford D vs Teen & Twenty C Enjoyable last game of the season, 2 very good wins for Toby and 3/3 for Jon. No report submitted Final evening ends with a photo finish Three teams went in to the final session knowing they had a realistic chance of winning this year's competition. The favourites, Kapow, were lying in third one point behind Tweenies-101 and Sweaty Trotters, but with a game in hand. With the Tweenies-101 and Kapow playing each other, however, both had the title in their own hands. Sweaty Trotters knew they had to win and hope their rivals slipped up. As Barmy Army were unable to field a side they forfeited their games. With one team fewer, the fixtures were altered to have four rounds instead of the usual five. This meant the exciting prospect of Kapow and Tweenies-101 playing each other in the final match of the evening! There was, however, plenty of table tennis action to be had before that. There were some tight games and good play on show, but most of the matches stuck with the league table. That was until The Mariners faced Kapow in the latter's penultimate match of the evening. At this stage, Kapow were a point behind leaders Tweenies-101 still with their game in hand. The Mariners were in fantastic form and beat the holders 3-2 to perfectly set up the title decider. With one round of matches to go, Sweaty Trotters had played all their fixtures and were on 55 points. Kapow and Tweenies-101, with their head to head match still to play, were on 53 and 52 points respectively. Owing to the teams' matches won, this meant both needed a win to take the competition win with the loser only taking third! The match itself was a tight and tense affair, with Kapow going 1-0 and 2-1 up only to be pegged back twice. But the holders were able to get a good lead at the beginning of the fifth and held on to retain their title.
31/03/15 - Otford A vs Byng Hall A No report submitted 31/03/15 - Otford C vs Byng Hall B Pleasingly we won to maintain our 100% record and match the Arsenal "Invincibles"! Peter Coles, Otford C 31/03/15 - Otford E vs Teen & Twenty B No report submitted 02/04/15 - Leigh B vs Otford D No report submitted 02/04/15 - Weald vs Barming DV Neither team got the result they needed. Both teams needed scores of 7-2/8-1/9-0 to make a difference. The 5-4 win to Weald was close fought affair. The crunch matches against Dean and Mark just went in the Weald's favour. Mark beat Miro in four with some good variation and forehand hitting. He also did very well to come from 2-0 down to defeat Petar, after having lost in five to Gary Pells. Dean had a really tight encounter with Miro, losing in three but all deuce legs with the nets favouring the home player. Dean had beaten Gary in three but against Petar he saw victory snatched from him in five superb legs with some excellent returning and counter hitting rallies. After apparently coming off the back of 16 straight previous div1 defeats young John Davidson earned a win v Gary with his spin variation and services to conclude a good evenings TT. Roger Harris, Weald 03/04/15 - Teen & Twenty A vs Leigh A
No report submitted 24/03/15 - Otford B vs Leigh A Thanks to Peter Clarke who rescued us from the cold with a key to the hall as the home side turned up key-less! Gary's mix of blocking, loops and side spin eventually overcoming some Doug's very persistent blocks and moving his opponent around. With Diccon Gray stuck on the motorway it was left to Roger to replace him and try and topple West Kent champion Martin. Another nearly but not quite episode saw Martin nick the first two legs 11-13 and 10-12 before taking the third and final leg. Martin went on to get a treble, dropping a leg to Gary but beating Petar in three. It is understood to be one of Steve Johnson's last ever matches in West Kent, so it was a pleasure to play this very popular figure. Steve beat Petar in four. Doug had to change style playing Roger and find his A(attack) game after losing the first then taking it in four. Blooming left handers was heard mentioned at some point in the evening. Weald 3 Otford B 6. Roger Harris, Weald 20/03/15 - Teen & Twenty A vs Barming DV No report submitted 20/03/15 - Teen & Twenty C vs Teen & Twenty B
No report submitted 12/03/15 - Leigh B vs Teen & Twenty C A good match for Toby Leheup. His hours of practice at the leagues Sunday morning sessions is bearing fruit. John Neal taken to 5 games and yours truly beaten in 3 straight games. Well done Toby. Malcolm Cole, Leigh B 12/03/15 - Weald vs Otford A The result did not reflect the quality of TT during the evening of very enjoyable games with good rallies and match ambience throughout. You do not though get points for trying hard as experience shone through. The evening started off as it continued to the end. Mark went 8-2 down to Miro but remaining calm (no it is not a misprint) came back to take it 11-9. Petar took Tyron to five losing 7-11 in fifth after getting the better of two legs 20-18 and 14-12. Similarly Roger had a 2-1 lead against Ty, one at 15-13 and then 9-7 up in the fifth after getting Ty to miss a couple of loops on his own serve. Ty used his get out of jail card and won the fifth in deuce. Roger also succumbed to Mark in five, again from 2-1 up with 12-10 and 15-13 legs before Mark's hard cross court flat hits took their toll. John was not going to be too tested and took all three games 3-0, one against Miro to 1 but Miro had the last word as he took the final game of the night v Tyron in four. Roger Harris, Weald 13/03/15 - Barming DV vs Leigh A
A close match that could have gone either way on the night, Barming DV sealing a 5-4 win when Dean Chipperfield scraped past Dave Cowlen 18-16 in the fifth in the last match of the evening. Well played Sue - very nearly 2 wins. Joe continues to improve in what is only his first season. However, well played Otford C; just too strong for us. Tony York, Otford E Sweaty Trotters on title charge as main rivals beaten The Sweaty Trotters gained maximum points on the penultimate evening of the season's doubles competition with wins over top two sides Kapow (3-2) and Tweenies-101 (3-0) as well as The Mariners (3-1) and PINGIT (3-0). This saw them rise from three points behind in third place to level on points with top side Tweenies-101, only behind them on matches won (only 14 compared to 15). Kapow are only one point behind in third, but with a game in hand. Both they and Tweenies-101 are no doubt well aware that the fate of the title lies in their hands. If Kapow win all their matches at the next meeting, they win the title. If Tweenies-101 win all theirs (beating Kapow 3-0 or 3-1), they are guaranteed first position. The Sweaty Trotters need both sides to slip up, but couldn't be better placed should that occur with their three matches remaining against sides currently in the bottom half of the table. The Mariners are still mathematically in the race for first place, but will need all three teams ahead of them to slip up badly on the final night. Barmy Army's poor fortune continued as they were unable to field a team for the third match and will now fight it out with PINGIT to avoid the wooden spoon. The sixth and final evening of this season's competition will take place on Friday 10th April 2015 at Teen & Twenty Club, Tonbridge.

No report submitted 10/02/15 - Otford A vs Teen & Twenty A No report submitted 10/02/15 - Otford C vs Teen & Twenty C The 9-0 score to Otford didn't accurately reflect a good match with some good rallies and great play by both teams. Great to see Mike Sefton back to full fitness and regaling us with his tales of previous victories. Peter Coles, Otford C 12/02/15 - Leigh B vs Byng Hall B Good match. Top marks for Ian for gaining 2 wins. Also to Neal who played extremely well beating John and Malcolm and only narrowly losing out to Ian in a five setter. Malcolm Cole, Leigh B 12/02/15 - Weald vs Leigh A The match was decided in the last game, whilst it was not really in doubt with Mark Romano being Leigh's player. Mark duly completed his treble v Roger but there were some excellent rallies to enjoy. Petar collected two, after beating a tiring Mick Cripps, who had earlier seen off Miro but was unable to hit past Roger. Dave Cowlen received tactical advice from his team mates versus Roger but it saw him losing 2-1 before he returned to more of his hitting game to turn it round 3-2. A good evenings match play that showed all the teams in the bottom half are pretty evenly matched. Otford D unable to field team and conceded. 05/02/15 - Weald vs Byng Hall A (rearranged from 29/01/15)
The best match was an excellent counter attacking encounter between Jurate and Diccon, where the third leg at 13-11 was key and gave the home man the lead, which he consolidated into a win in the fourth leg. Jurate saw off Petar and Miro to gain Byng's points. Adrian Sainsbury was plagued by a previous foot injury, which flared up during his second game making movement too difficult, albeit he sportingly played through the difficulty. The games were enjoyable and as customary at these two club venues playing on two tables was no problem to either side. Roger Harris, Weald 02/02/15 - Byng Hall A vs Teen & Twenty A

Well done Sarah and Sue who were missing a third team member but were able to take 6 points back... Toby was so close to winning his first match in the league, he is improving all the time! That first win won't be far away I'm sure. Unfortunately Otford E could only field two players, largely due to a lengthy injury list. Ben and Sue put up a good fight but to no avail as T & 20 B finished winners by a score of 7-2. All players benefited from Peter's selection of rare delicacies at half-way. Pork Pies and Sausage Rolls, extraordinaire, not the mention the chocolate biscuits! Obviously his wife did the shopping this week! Steve Day, Teen & Twenty B 12/01/15 - Leigh A vs Otford B No report submitted 13/01/15 - Otford A vs Barming DV A good & friendly match followed by a pint in the Bull! Tyron Stalberg, Otford A 13/01/15 - Otford C vs Teen & Twenty B A man-of-the-match performance from Paul Homewood made the difference in this exciting top of the table clash played in great spirit. Some exciting rallies and tense five setters, but Otford B ran out 6-3 winners to maintain their 100% record at the top and their push for the coveted silverware. High class refreshments thanks to some scrounged Earl Grey tea and Peter Holt's coconut rings! Peter Coles, Otford C 13/01/15 - Otford E vs Leigh B A very good match, close to the end. Well done Sue for a full house. Tony York, Otford E 16/01/15 - Teen & Twenty A vs Byng Hall A No report submitted 16/01/15 - Teen & Twenty C vs Byng Hall B
