This year's annual general meeting took place on Wednesday 28 June 2023. Minutes and the original agenda can be found here.
It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Dave lost his battle with cancer yesterday afternoon.
He will be missed by us all as a friend and as someone who made a huge contribution to our local league and table tennis community. Our thoughts are with Dave's family and close friends at this really tough time. Tyron WKTTA Chairman
As as a result of the government announcement, all fixtures scheduled from 4 November will be postponed. We hope to re-start play again once restrictions are eased again.
Matches for the 2020-21 league season will start on Tuesday 27 October 2020 at Otford. The league will feature a new format designed to take account of coronavirus restrictions and is scheduled to run until January 2021. The document below sets out how the competition will operate, the teams and fixture dates.
As the first round of matches are taking place over the next two weeks, we suggest that everyone becomes familiar with the way the competition will work and the teams and dates. Team secretaries should now contact their teams to check availability. If there are any difficulties with availability, you will see there is a flexibility over arranging substitutes. With two player teams, it is essential that every team due to play fields two players.
Infection control procedures have been established at Meadows and Otford which reflect Table Tennis England guidance and any specific requirements of the venues. At each of the divisional matches there will be at least one player responsible for ensuring procedures are followed. Please bring your own hand sanitiser and use frequently. In the case of Otford, face coverings must be used when not playing. Both venues are large enough to easily accommodate two tables and comply with Table Tennis England requirements. Scorecards can be found here. As matches are being played simultaneously over two tables, a card will need to be completed for each table's results and then consolidated onto one of the cards at the end of the match. A photo or scan of the card should then emailed to Nick Smith. Good luck to everyone and enjoy the competition. Following the government advice this evening, all matches within WKTTA will be suspended until further notice.
We cannot classify table tennis as an essential activity; and our priority actions must be to safeguard our members and their families. Tyron Tonight saw the final evening of this season's Development League. The Red Team (Jack Smith and Pauline Davies) were crowned champions with 30 points and The Yellow Team (Nick Cabrera and Patrick Jotischky) finished second with 27. A special well done to Jack Smith for finishing the season with a 100% win record.
The main league's fixtures have now been published and can be viewed or downloaded below. Please note that there are a few Otford home matches being played at a venue other than Otford.
Meopham Table Tennis Club, who have seven teams in the Gravesend & District Table Tennis League, are seeking Premier Quality players to support their A side (home night Wednesday).
If you are interested in playing extra games this season, please contact Maurice Butler on 07947835094 to discuss. Thank you. The fixtures for the 2016/17 season are now available to be downloaded. They are available by team and by date.
Registrations for entry to Division One and Division Two are now open, the deadline for entry is 26th August 2016. Teams do not need to be part of clubs or even have their own venue this season, you just need some team mates! An entry form is available to download below and should be sent to [email protected] before the deadline.
BATTLE ROYALE
Top spot went to George Sainsbury on 92%. The second spot was very tightly and highly contested; coming down after five weeks to one leg in one of the last games - Paul Livermore beating Brian Lees 3-2 to take second on 85.4% with Brian third, less than 1% behind him. Nick Smith had been in contention all the way through, finishing fourth equal with Tyron on 79% after numerous games going to five legs. The top three places each week were spread over 12 players, the groups changed in size and players week by week. An award was given to the Best Developing Player, Hugh O'Neill, who obtained the most legs won over the five sessions. Our Chair, Tyron presented the keepsake trophies as momentoes of the players efforts. We hope those unable to take part this year can do so next year. Our target was 24 (25% of membership). We had 25 entries, 19 participated over the five sessions, with six tables throughout in continuous use, players getting mostly 4 matches per session, sometimes 5 giving many excellent games of TT for pretty well everyone. Many said they had enjoyed the competition and the spirit in which it was played, along with the multi table format getting players of all abilities together in the same venue. Thanks to everyone for making it work as an enjoyable, friendly, fun but competitive competition. ENGLISH LEAGUES CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 MENS WILMOTT CUP organised by Table Tennis England REGIONAL GROUP 8 Saturday 23rd April at Byng Hall TTC Tunbridge Wells West Kent just pipped by Hastings The West Kent team of Diccon Gray (Weald TTC), Owe Karlsson (Byng Hall TTC), Mark Romano (Leigh RBL TTC) played well to go unbeaten into the deciding match with Hastings, who were also unbeaten. Both teams defeated good sides from Guildford and Crawley/Horsham after some really excellent quality controlled, attacking table tennis where no player went through the competition without losing. The individual highlight was Mark Collins of Crawley/Horsham defeating the highest rated player, Ritchie Venner of Hastings. West Kent took a 2-1 lead against Hastings with Diccon and Mark overcoming Ritchie Venner and David Butler in the doubles, Diccon having defeated David and Mark losing to Ritchie. Needing one of the two remaining games (with matches played simultaneously on two tables), Diccon took Ritchie to five, going 2-1 up before losing out. Mark Romano took on David pulling it back to 2-2. The Diccon/Ritchie match having concluded it was all eyes on the this last leg of Mark versus David. David played exceptionally well and took the leg 11-8. Hastings go on to represent the South East in the finals. West Kent look to try again next year and turn the tables in their favour. West Kent v Hastings 1-0 Diccon Gray v David Butler 6 -8 -8 3 5 1-1 Mark Romano v Ritchie Venner -7 -8 9 -6 2-1 Gray/Romano v Venner/Butler 12 5 6 2-2 Diccon Gray v Ritchie Venner 10 -11 7 -7 -3 2-3.Mark Romano v David Butler 5 -8 -9 7 -8 The West Kent team squad members Dean Chipperfield (Leigh RBL TTC) and Paul Livermore (Otford TTC) valuably carried out umpiring duties, looked after the three visiting teams, dealt with match logistics as well as supporting their team.
