Last Sunday saw our three Kent League teams playing at Teen & Twenty TTC in Tonbridge against teams from three different leagues. All teams continue to do well in their respective divisions. See below for details:
Sunday 7th Dec 2014
Division 1
West Kent A 5-5 North West Kent A
A) Ming Majoe (1) X) Peter Ives (3)
B) Sam Smith (2) Y) Peter Davis (1)
C) Dean Chipperfield (2) Z) Matt Emery (0)
Report:
A match of fluctuating fortune as West Kent took a 5-2 lead only for the match score to be pegged at 5-5, North West Kent earning the draw by taking the doubles 15-13 in the fifth. Game of the afternoon was that between Sam Smith and Peter Ives, full of spectacular rallies, Peter coming back from 2-0 down to win 11-9 in the fifth after trailing. Dean Chipperfield also extended Peter Ives, only losing 8-11 in the fifth after losing the first two sets 6 and 5.
Division 2
West Kent B 5-5 Maidstone C
A) Dan Powley (3) X) Adam Simpson (2)
B) Peter Coles (0) Y) Petar Tancevski(1)
C) Steve Day (1) Z) Paul Godson (2)
Report:
Excellent match between two of the promotion chasers. Dan Powley was in superb form winning all his three games and retaining his 100% record. At 3-1 and 5-3, it looked like Maidstone would take the honours but West Kent rallied to claim the draw with Dan and Steve beating Paul and Adam to take the doubles in four tightly contested sets.
Great afternoon of competitive but good humoured table tennis!
West Kent C 5-5 Sittingbourne
A) Andrew Hancock (1) X) Peter Holmes (3)
B) Heidi Smith (2) Y) John Coleman (0)
C) Andy Larner (2) Z) Sean McMillan (1)
Report:
Peter Holmes controlled game was more than a match for the West Kent players, but West Kent did well to secure a draw despite the loss of Carol Day to sickness. Heidi Smith playing in her place and lacking recent match play overcame her frustration with her own play to record two wins, having to battle back from two sets down at 5 and 4 to Sean McMillan. Andrew Hancock also did well to secure the first Kent League win which had previously eluded him. Sean McMillan had also taken a 2-0 lead against Andy Larner before he reversed this by a clever change of pace.
