Handicap Trophy
Rules
Competition Format
This season eight teams are participating in the handicap competition and will be played over three weeks:
Match Format
Each team consists of 3 players, each player playing 3 singles. No doubles will be played. Each game has 2 legs, both to 31 points (no deuce, sudden death point to win leg). Service change is every 5 except at the start if less than 5. Each game score is the sum of the total points for the two legs e.g. 29-31 + 31-26 = total 60pts - 57pts. Points won by each player are added to a cumulative score for the team, resulting in a total match score. Starting points for each player will be calculated using the Handicap Calculator (in handbook). In the event that a team is a player short, his/her games shall be forfeited and 31pts per leg awarded to the opposing team (see Eligibility below).
Handicap Rating
Players' ratings for the competition will be shown on the website on the Monday of each Handicap week. The relevant ratings can be found on the Individual Handicap List page here.
Eligibility
All league players may participate in the competition. Where a full team cannot be fielded, any league player from any club may act as substitute. The substitute will then be restricted to play any further handicap matches for that same club for the remainder of the season.
Results
The home team scorecard must be checked and signed by both team captains. The home team captain must forward the scorecard details via email or send by first class post to the Registration Secretary, Daniel Powley. This must be done no later than 2 days after the match has been played (or 3 days for matches played on a Friday). Download a handicap scorecard here.
This season eight teams are participating in the handicap competition and will be played over three weeks:
- The Handicap Competition will run in a slightly different format to last year, and will take place in the first half of the season.
- Eight teams have elected to take part and were entered in to a random draw.
- Teams were then drawn out to give four first round ties.
- Two of the winners will then play each other in a semi-final, and the other two in another.
- The winners of these semi-finals will the play a final, and the losers a third place play-off.
- The four losers of the first round ties will play each other in a similar fashion competing for positions five to eight.
- This format ensures every team gets an equal number of games, but is essentially a knock-out format.
