Doubles Competition
Welcome to the home page of the Doubles Competition. This competition ran for three years from the 2013/14 season to the 2015/16 season before it was discontinued and re-integrated in to the mean league.
The Competition
The Doubles Competition ran as a secondary competition to the main league. It was a team competition, often with more than two players in each squad. It was run on a league basis with each team playing each other multiple times. But, with more than two members each team, two doubles matches between the same teams were rarely competed by the same doubles pairings.
Each match was the best of five legs with one point being awarded for each leg won. For example, if Team X won a match against Team Y 3-1, Team X gained 3 points and Team Y gained 1 point.
Matches took place concurrently on three tables. If a team was unable to field players for a match, they forfeited the match and 3 points were awarded to their opponents.
The Entry Process
Initially, players entered as individuals on their club's registration form for the coming season. The rating cap was set out in the cover letter to club secretaries.
After all club registration forms had been received, players formed their teams from either their own clubs or different clubs, also creating their own team names. This rating cap applied to each match, so two members of the same squad could exceed the rating cap as long as they did not play together.
